MEET CALI

Cali’s steady, caring presence helps to create a space where you can feel safe, supported, and able to meet your therapeutic goals.

Research shows that simply petting a therapy dog can lower stress hormones like cortisol, reduce blood pressure, and elevate “feel-good” hormones such as oxytocin, serotonin, and prolactin—creating a soothing physiological effect (UCLA Health). In clinical settings, animal-assisted therapy has demonstrated benefits for a range of emotional and cognitive needs—helping ease anxiety, depression, PTSD, and improving emotional self-regulation and social comfort (Integrative Medicine Research). For example, a recent randomized trial found that students who interacted with therapy dogs experienced significant reductions in stress—up to 43% within just 30 minutes (PLOS ONE). Cali is a 6 year old Golden Retriever. She and Dr. Lager are certified by Pet Partners as a therapy dog/handler team.  With your consent, Cali can be present during your session to make you feel welcome, provide comfort, and help create a soothing environment.
